Spartan Controls Extends $2.5 Million Partnership with BCIT to Fuel Innovation and Education in Energy Sector

June 20, 2024
Burnaby, BC, June 20, 2024 – Spartan Controls is pleased to announce the extension of our $2.5 million contribution agreement with the British Columbia Institute of Technology (BCIT). For 60 years, BCIT has been delivering flexible, relevant, and future-proof education that prepares learners to provide applied solutions to industry challenges. BCIT connects education, industry, and government in building an agile workforce.
"The pace of innovation in industrial automation makes it challenging to keep curriculums in sync with industry,” said Doug Ndegwa, President & CEO of Spartan Controls. “Innovative and experiential learning environments require ongoing collaboration between educators, operators, technology solutions providers and government to supply the skilled resources our economy needs. Institutions like BCIT produce top-tier graduates, and we are proud to support their efforts."
This extended agreement includes the donation of cutting-edge digital technologies, technical support, collaboration opportunities, and students’ awards funding to the BCIT School of Energy through 2032. The CEER Advanced Learning Ecosystem for Digital Operations will be implemented in the Spartan Controls Centre for Energy Education and Research facility, a pivotal hub for energy education and research at BCIT. The facility houses the School of Energy’s boiler, co-generation, and industrial instrumentation equipment.
“As one of BCIT’s key industry partners, Spartan Controls has accelerated our efforts to provide students with leading-edge, applied learning opportunities. This continued partnership highlights the significant connection between BCIT and Spartan Controls as we strive to meet the labour market needs of today and tomorrow ,” says BCIT President,  Jeff Zabudsky.
This support demonstrates Spartan's dedication to technical institutes and universities across Western Canada. Similar partnerships with the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology (NAIT), Southern Alberta Institute of Technology (SAIT), and Saskatchewan Polytechnic have provided students with valuable hands-on experience, enhancing industry reliability and performance.
