Canadian Electrical Code Issues
This site covers Canadian Electrical Code (CEC) compliance issues and how regulations affect the use of our products and services. The site includes reference documents and links to other standards organizations such as CSA, CEC, ISA, and STANDATA issues.
The Canadian Electrical Code, Part 1, 2006, Safety Standard for Electrical Installations (C22.1-06), and the associated STANDATA Variance of October 1, 2007, now requires special process seals (secondary seals) in some applications to ensure that process fluid cannot pass through the conduit or cable into other areas upon failure of a single component. Spartan Controls works with the manufacturers we represent to help customers address these requirements (ANSI/ISA-12.27.01).

Rosemount Analytical Combustion
Rosemount Analytical combustion products are designed only for use after a combustion process. As such, the gases measured have been burnt and are inert. As inert gas is neither a Flammable nor a Combustible Process Fluid, ANSI/ISA standard 12.27.01 is inapplicable by definition.
This includes OCX 1000, 8800 OCX, and Oxymitter.
Rosemount Analytical Gas
Rosemount Analytical gas analyzer products are specifically designed for use with the correct area classes. Instruments rated for general purpose areas may NOT be used with flammable or combustible process fluids. GP instruments are rated NEMA12 and so are not pressure containing. Instruments rated for Zone 2 areas may only be used with flammable or combustible process fluids if an approved ISA purge system is incorporated into the system design. These instruments do not contain pressure and are flushed in accordance to NFPA 496 Standard for Purged and Pressurized Enclosures for Electrical Equipment 2003 Edition. Instruments rated for Zone 1 areas are mounted in CSA-approved explosion-proof or flame-proof enclosures. CSA-approved explosion-proof or flame-proof enclosures do not contain pressure but would allow any leakage of flammable or combustible process fluids to leak into the defined hazardous area. As none of these devices contain pressure ANSI/ISA standard 12.27.01 is inapplicable by definition.
Rosemount Analytical GCD (Gas Chromatograph Division)
Emerson provides gas chromatograph analyzers specifically designed for operation in hazardous areas. The chromatographs use CSA-approved explosion-proof or flame-proof enclosures that do not contain pressure. Flammable or combustible process fluids are leaked into the defined hazardous area. As none of these devices contain pressure ANSI/ISA standard 12.27.01 is inapplicable by definition.
This applies to models 500, 700, and 1000.
Rosemount Analytical Liquid
Rosemount Analytical Liquid Division provides sensors and transmitters that measure the various properties of water. As water is neither a flammable nor a combustible process fluid, ANSI/ISA standard 12.27.01 is inapplicable by definition. Click here for the manufacturer’s Letter of Declaration.

ROC devices are not exposed to process fluid directly, so CEC not applicable. This applies to Models ROC 809, ROC 364, ROC 312, and ROC 306.

Fisher Controls Positioners, Controllers, and Transmitters
Models DVC6000, DVC600f, DVC6200 & DVC6200f are CSA certified. DVCs with low bleed options or with extreme temperature options are certified by CSA to ANSI/ISA-12.27.01. Click here for the certificate.

The Fisher i2P-100 is certified by CSA to ANSI/ISA-12.27.01. New i2Ps will have the nameplates labeled accordingly. Physically, there is no difference between an existing i2P-100 and the new “single sealed device” i2P-100. Click here for the CSA certificate.
Not scheduled for approval are models 846, 546 and 646.
ASCO Solenoid Valves
The class number for ASCO hazardous environment solenoids is 3228-01 and is not listed as an affected class.
Follow this link to model numbers covered under the CSA Class 3228-01., and a list of solenoids that comply with the single seal requirements per ANSI/ISA-12.27.01.
Note that as of March 17, 2009 the solenoid nameplates do not indicate compliance to single seal, but this issue is being addressed by ASCO Valve. Check this site for updates concerning the nameplate.
